PROGRAM - SKETCHUP + LUMION
ACT 228

Just like ACT 128, we started building our house model in Sketchup first. Eventually we added colors and materials, then importing into Lumion. This was my first time trying Lumion, so it took me a while to get a grasp on, especially while being sick as I’m learning it. I also tried Photoshop for the first time to combine images and hide logos. This whole composite was made on Layout as well. I’m honestly happy with how this turned out, since I took full control and changed everything in this model compared to the real life house. Check out “Woodstock Vermont Farm House Rick Joy Studio” and see how much that was changed in this. I think my changes were for the better, yet I tried to keep them as simple as the original. I wanted to try a new style as well for me, so I went with a more modern/industrial Bauhaus styled home inside. I think that this really taught me how to create real life like still images to grasp a sense of living in a space that was modeled in another program. This was definitely my most proud work at Henry Ford College.

BACKGROUND

HERE, THE WOODSTOCK VERMONT FARMHOUSE WAS DESIGNED AND BUILT TO BE ONE WITH THE SURROUNDINGS, AS IT USED LOCAL QUARRIED STONE, LOCAL CEDAR WOOD, AND SITUATED ON OVER 200 ACRES OF FARMLAND WITH A NATURAL SPRING FED POND. IN 2010 IT WON THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS AWARD IN THE DESIGN IDUSTRY AS RECORD HOUSE OF THE YEAR. THE "LONGHOUSE"  PORTION IS 150 FEET LONG, HOUSING FOUR BEDROOMS, WHILE THE BARN ADDITION ADDS 6,000 SQUARE FEET OF LIVABLE SPACE, HOUSING 6 BEDROOMS INSIDE. THE ORIGINAL HOUSE HAD CEDAR SHAKES COATING THE WHOLE HOUSE, AS SAME WAS FOR THE BARN.  THE INSIDE WAS ALL ONE SOLID WOOD COLOR FOR THE WALLS AND CATHEDRAL CEILING, WHERE THE MASTER BEDROOM HAS A MATCHING DOOR THAT FOLLOWS THE SHAPE OF THE ROOF AND LOCKS TO ALLOW MAXIMUM PRIVACY WITH A COMPLETE ON SUITE.
THE CHANGES HERE WERE DRASTIC. EVERYTHING CHANGED AS A DIFFERENT APPROACH WAS TAKEN TO RENDER THIS HOUSE. THE TRIM AROUND THE WINDOWS AND TWO TONE PATTERNS WAS A PLUS, AS WAS THE SUNKEN LIVING ROOM FLOOR. STONE WAS REPLACED FOR WOODEN PANELING INSIDE TO WARM IT UP A BIT, AND AN OVERALL MODERN INDUSTRIAL APPEAL WAS TAKEN AS A DESIGN APPROACH. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS SIMILAR WAS THAT BOTH HOMES SITUATED IN THE MOUNTAINS AT THE BOTTOM OF A VALLEY. WE SURE HOPE THIS COULD WIN THE RECORD FOR BEST RENOVATED HOUSE OF THE YEAR IF THAT WAS A THING.
